The perfect is the enemy of the good

I made a loooong post yesterday that I never ended up publishing because I was too busy tweaking it and thinking I’d come back to it later.  Lesson learned: just get it out the door! Here’s the recap, because I ate some cool things:

breakfast

Once again, my day started with maple buckwheat flakes, almond milk, yogurt, and a spoonful of peanut butter.  I wasn’t that interested in the cereal this morning, but the green monster really woke me up!

Lunch was spent at a local garden with my darling boyfriend.  He even stopped to pick up mexican food on the way, in part because today begins the official one-week countdown to my birthday.  I’m getting older, y’all!

wallaby-snackI didn’t eat my morning snack because it was a busy, busy day but I eventually got to my afternoon snack: a plum and this new-to-me Wallaby fruit on the bottom yogurt.  Today’s was grapefruit, and it was deee-licious.  The fruit part was a bit too sweet for me, but it was otherwise an exciting afternoon treat.  (But look, y’all, at that thick layer of fruit on the bottom!  It was fun.)

I currently have a deal with my boyfriend that I take the train to work and he picks me up after.  I only work 3ish miles from our place, so I used to walk.  (I have a car, but parking at my job is $6 a day, which does not make sense for the city in which I live!) Today he ended up having a late meeting, so I got to revisit my old walking route!

It was hot, but I got to see lots of fun things:

lizardLike this lizard! (Circled, because I couldn’t get close enough with my blackberry to get a better shot without scaring him off.)  I see dozens of these guys on my runs, especially the long Saturday one – I’ll have to document more of them sometime.

Dinner was lunch leftovers with new toppings of broccoli, crumbled tofu, cheese, and Trocomare.  (Trocomare will be getting its own post, because I love this stuff!  It’s a salt blend with lots of herbs, spices, and even a few veggies.)

I counted the 50 minute walk as cross-training, so all that remained when I got home was pilates.  I did an extended session because the boyfriend was busy doing secret birthday-oriented tasks and I couldn’t leave the living room.  Open leg rocker (one example here) kicks my booty!  Even after 45 minutes of mat pilates I still couldn’t leave the living room, so I did some more of my favorite cross-training: a video game!  Can you guess which one?

I fell asleep at 8:30, which meant I bounded out of bed before my alarm at 5 this morning.  I started with a new smoothie: The Mocha Monster

mocha-1

Step 1: Add these (iced coffee, almond milk, and chocolate syrup) to the standard green monster (mine is 2 kale leaves, 1/2 banana, and a little water)

mocha-2

Step 2: Blend until creamy….

Step 3: The Mocha Monster! Believe me, it really tasted like a banana-mocha shake.

I also had a bowl of the usual breakfast cereal mix once I got to work – I lost track of time this morning catching up on some blog reading :)

I’ve got a lot of non-bloggy loose ends to tie up today, but I’ve also got some cool things coming in the mail…stay tuned!
