Since I’m running my first half marathon this fall and training all by myself, I’ve been wandering the web for a few months in search of good tips and motivation. The Runner’s Lounge has a new series called Half Marathon, Full Challenge…I like the posts but I”m not sure I’m really the target audience for the podcasts since I don’t relate to their stories and I’m not one for motivational quotes, but I keep reading and listening anyway
This week’s podcast episode was about successes and challenges. I appreciated their remarks on the difficulty of running during the summer (96 outside as I type!), and it was nice to have some running chatter during my lunchbreak, but I just don’t share the rest of their challenges. I’m lucky that I can make my workouts a priority, I suppose, and that I will haul myself out the door 4-5 times a week for increasingly long runs without (much) hesitation.
I’m sure this series will become more interesting to me as race day approaches and I begin to lose my cool
For now, I feel like I already know that I should be hydrating, refueling on long runs, and keeping everything in balance.

I did like some of their training mistakes from an earlier post, like:
- Don’t start.
- Try to fake it without training. (I know more than a handful of people who did this – every one came home with injuries!)
Today 13 miles seems like nothing…we’ll see what song I’m singing after Saturday’s long run.
